All the money will stay here in Campbell County to support those in need. The Bank wishes to thank all those that donated their money to our bake sales. Our 2011 bake sales will occur on 4 MAR and 1 APR.
John Seiber from our bank got the opportunity to meet Tennessee Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl at the East Tennessee Junior Achievement (JA) Fund Raiser. John has a special interest in JA and serves volunteer in Campbell and Anderson County school systems.
Logan Hickman, chairman of the fourth annual 2011 Boy Scouts of America's Campbell County Good Scout Award Dinner, is pleased to announce the 2011 honorees are six brothers who served their country in time of war. Those brothers and Campbell County natives are Adrion Baird, Chester Baird, Nathan Baird, Nolan Baird, Roy Baird, and Virgil Baird. The Baird brothers' accomplishments are many and include service to both our country and the communities they call home. This yearly ceremony and dinner will occur at the Cove Lake State Park Pavilion on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 6:30 PM. The money raised at the event will support Campbell County scouting in 2011.
The dinner nominating committee got the idea for this year's recipients from the LaFollette Press's Veterans Day section published this past November. The Press featured an article written by Adrion Baird highlighting the brothers' military service.
Adrion served in the Army during the Korean War era. Nolan, Nathan, Virgil and Roy all served in the Navy during WWII. Nolan, Nathan, and Roy were serving in the Navy on December 7, 1941. Nathan endured the bombing at Pearl Harbor. Chester joined the Army in 1946 and retired at the rank of command sergeant major.
All six brothers brought great credit to Campbell County. Adrion served as a Campbell County commissioner for twelve years. Adrion, Nolan, and Roy live in Campbell County. Chester lives in Yuma, Arizona. Nathan died in 1979 and Virgil died in 2006. It is hoped that the four surviving brothers may all be present at the dinner on February 1.
Dr. Gary Goff, President of Roane State Community College, will serve as the guest speaker. Logan Hickman said, "It is an honor to have Dr. Goff on our program. He is the perfect fit for the evening. Dr. Goff has distinguished himself as both an educator and as a retired US Army colonel with thirty years of service."
Peoples Bank of the South is proud to underwrite the dinner's expense for the fourth year. John T. Reynolds, bank CEO and Chairman, stated, "Campbell County natives have long impacted our country in many positive ways. The Baird brothers are a fine example of America's citizen-soldier. Peoples Bank is truly honored to be associated with such a fine event, and at the same time, support boy scouting."
The previous award recipients are Mr. Ed Balloff, the late Mrs. Juanita Baird, and COL Tom Stiner. For more dinner information, please contact Logan Hickman, Peoples Bank of the South, 423-562-4921.
